School Facilities

We have a range of facilities to accommodate every child and need.

Eco Garden

We cherish our outdoor area as much as our indoor space and devote ample time to enjoying the fresh air. Our outdoor environment features a variety of play surfaces, including grass and bark, some of which are level while others are uneven, enhancing the overall play experience. The children have the opportunity to engage in activities such as block play, mark making, reading, building dens, exploring small worlds, and participating in mud kitchen activities, among others.

Healthy Eating

As a preschool, we provide a variety of nutritious snack options during our sessions to introduce children to new foods. We are delighted to share that our snack and beverage menu has been endorsed by the Public Health Dietitians and is in accordance with the Welsh Government Best Practice Guidelines for Food and Nutrition in Childcare settings, suitable for 1-4-year-olds.

Preschool Room

Our preschool is intentionally designed to offer a secure, expansive, well-lit, and open environment for children. The space has been thoughtfully planned and furnished with an array of age-appropriate toys and equipment. Children have the opportunity to engage in activities such as sand play, water play, painting, sculpting, block play, imaginative play, and reading, among others.

Equipment and Resources

The preschool is extensively equipped both indoors and outdoors. Every item is thoughtfully selected, considering health and safety, quality, as well as the children's age and developmental stage. Our resources are carefully chosen to cater to all developmental needs, ensuring that all play activities are well-planned and aligned with the children's requirements.

Children with additional needs

If staff have any concerns regarding the child's requirements, they will communicate with the parents and explore ways to address these needs. The Preschool will not discuss the child's needs with any party unless the parents have provided written consent. Subsequently, staff will collaborate with parents and other pertinent parties to cater to the child's needs. Every child is guaranteed equal access to facilities, activities, and play opportunities. Our staff are committed to pursuing additional training and acquiring knowledge about children with diverse needs and the various considerations involved.

Key Working

At our Preschool, it is both our policy and a fundamental practice that our staff regularly engage with the children under their care. This approach aims to provide a stable and secure environment, fostering the children's confidence and sense of security. When a child settles in, they will be assigned a key worker who will provide dedicated support and reassurance until they feel entirely comfortable. This is particularly crucial for toddlers, who form strong attachments to key adults during this critical stage of their development. Once a child has settled in, the key worker will be assigned to work with a specific group of children. Parents can find information about their child's key worker on the daily essential working list posted at the entrance of the Preschool.

Communication

Every child's development will be diligently tracked and documented in their records. Parents will receive updates through regular discussions and semi-annual written progress reports, which they will have the chance to review. If any concerns arise in the interim, we will engage in open dialogue with parents to determine the best course of action. Additionally, we maintain ongoing communication with parents using the Seesaw App, where we post details such as play records, menus, and meal information.

Language Used

The preschool conducts its activities in English, and all staff members are proficient in English. Welsh is used to enhance the children's comprehension as required, and we have a team of Welsh-speaking staff to support this effort. We utilise Ticw and various other resources to encourage the use of Welsh across the preschool. If you speak another language and wish for us to incorporate it into your child's daily routine, we can work together to make the necessary arrangements.

Partnership with Parents

Our organization values the strong partnership with parents, collaborating from the initial visit and continuing as the child progresses. We believe that effective communication and mutual understanding are imperative in meeting each child's specific individual needs while in our care.

St Winefride's Preschool

St. Winefride's preschool has been established at St. Winefride's Catholic Primary School since 1983. With the help of staff and parents, we have provided excellent care and education to many children. We pride ourselves on our superb reputation, which we have achieved over the years.
